I'm really excited about wearing pastels for spring. There is something so poetic, elegant, and feminine about light pink, lavender, light blue, light green, etc. I can't wait to dig around my closet (and shop, of course) so that I will be able to wear more pastels soon! I might be starting a little early, seeing that there is still quite a bit of snow on the ground and that it is not officially spring yet, but I just can't help myself!

I will be posting my take on the Fall 2010 New York shows tomorrow! SO excited for all of that, so stay tuned! :)

A Mix

sweater-h&m, leggings-american apparel, boots-frye

My outfit is a little bit quirky today. I didn't really think about how everything would look together in the end...I just kept piling on layers! It's always fun to get dressed in that kind of a way.

Hello. :)

Can you tell by my face how cold it is today?

The sweater I am wearing is another found treasure from an excursion into my mom's closet. She hasn't worn it in years. The last time she did, I remember poking fun at the huge puffed shoulder sleeves...now can't stop loving what those huge puffed shoulder sleeves add to the sweater and my outfit! It is made of 100% wool, so it is very warm (and if you haven't noticed, warm clothing during winter is number one for me).

It's been a while since my last post...the reason being is that we had to put my dog down on January 22. He was 11 years old and the best little guy in the world.

Geometric Color

Today I am wearing one of my favorite sweaters!

It is from H&M. I made it the focus of my outfit by pairing it with a black turtleneck dress from American Apparel and gray tights. I felt like the patterning of shapes and colors deserved a spotlight!

Breezy Proportions

You will now witness my failed attempt in trying to be fierce...

Oh well...I tried!

Everything I'm wearing today is a bit oversized. I wanted to be comfortable on my last day of winter break before school starts up again. The one aspect I love about this top, however, is that the silken fabric making up the bottom hem in the front, continues and takes up most of the back. I feel like it adds just the right amount of excitement!

Flushed Pink

Hello, once again!

dress-Anthology (small boutique), turtleneck-J. Crew, necklace-Forever 21, boots-Vintage

I found this dress in Anthology, a small boutique in Hoboken, NJ. If you are ever in the New York area, Anthology is a short 15 minute path ride from Manhattan. I love the soft pink color of this dress and the elegant fall of the sleeves. A found gem among many treasures! I threw it over a light pink turtleneck from J. Crew to keep warm in the cold, although I can't wait to through it over a bathing suit come summertime! My necklace is from Forever 21. I don't wear it often, but I thought it added a bit of pizazz to an otherwise simple outfit.

shirt-vintage, jeans-topshop, belt-vintage, scarf-h&m, boots-frye

It is frigid cold here today! Luckily I have my enormous scarf from H&M to keep me warm. I threw it over one of my favorite blouses that was actually my mom's in the 1970's. I am always sneaking it out of her closet! I should have taken a detail photo of my blouse for you all to see! There is silken embroidery alongside the buttons. It adds a touch of elegance when paired with my black jeans. The black jeans are actually my first purchase from Topshop since that wonderful store arrived in NYC. My boots are Frye...you can never go wrong with Frye! I wear them almost everyday.

Thank you for everyone's comments this far! I am really enjoying the fashion blogging experience!

Staying Warm

Here I am!

sweater-vintage, shirt-h&m, leggings-american apparel, belt-h&m, boots-vintage

This sweater is super warm. The pattern is a little different for me but I love the earthy tones. I usually throw a belt around my waist when I wear this sweater to give it a bit of shape. I am also wearing the newest addition to my continually growing shoe collection, a pair of heeled, lace-up boots!

To close, I came across this article on Ana Lerario-Geller's line. Check out the slideshow which showcases her Spring/Summer 2010 collection. Her pieces are really beautiful.

A Pastel Spring

Hello! My name is Mary. I have been wanting to get into the fashion blogging scene for quite a while now. Fashion is something I take great delight in. It might sound weird, but I feel like the clothing, shoes, and accessories hanging in my closet (or most of the time, scattered around my room) are my art supplies. Every morning, when I gather up various pieces of clothing, pick out a pair of shoes, and sort out my accessories, I am creating a shape with close attention to style, color, and texture. And yet, as with all art, comes inspiration. In recent months, I have been attracted to neutrals and pastels (as you will see in the photos below) like ivory, gray, pale pink, etc. I do plan on posting pictures of the ensembles I put together, but because this is my first post, I have included some of my favorite pieces from the spring 2010 shows.

I am very excited to begin my journey! Enjoy, xo.

Marc Jacobs, Spring 2010-
The fabric of this dress is so graceful and the thin black lines add just the right amount of dynamism. I loved the way it floated down the runway.

Chloe, Spring 2010-I was unusually disappointed with Hannah MacGibbon's spring collection. I did not feel like there was a consistency with her pieces. In any case, this dress was my favorite.

Stella McCartney, Spring 2010-I found myself drawn to Stella McCartney's use of neutrals in her spring collection. She created a look that is sophisticated, yet chic and feminine.

Burberry Prorsum, Spring 2010-Christopher Bailey's spring collection is for the young and the romantic.
